HAGIA SOPHIA MUSEUM 

 


Trebizond is considered the best-preserved monument of the Greek Empire that has survived to this day. It was built in the Middle Ages on a rugged land near the sea.

Trabzon Hagia Sophia Museum, one of the most beautiful examples of Late Byzantine Churches, has a high drum dome. In the building where magnificent workmanship is seen, the effects of the Seljuk Period as well as Christian art can be seen.

The building, which was used as a mosque until 1960, was restored by the General Directorate of Foundations and turned into a museum in 1964. It was reopened for Muslim worship in 2013.

 

GIRL'S MONASTERY 

 

III. The restoration of the building, built during the reign of Alexios (1349-1390), was completed in 2018 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. This magnificent building, where you can watch the unique view of the city, is located at the foot of Boztepe Mountain.

TRABZON AQUARIUM 

The 200-meter-long and 16-meter-wide Trabzon Aquarium, built by Ortahisar Municipality between Zağnos and Tabakhane valleys, started service on May 19, 2022. Trabzon Aquarium, which hosts thousands of sea creatures, has become a frequent destination for local tourism professionals. It has been welcoming foreign tourists since the day it opened. 

 

BOTANIC GARDEN 

 

It is the first botanical park of the Black Sea region and the 10th botanical park of Turkey. There are approximately 11 thousand plants of 130 species in an area of 103 thousand square meters. There is a restaurant and cafe inside where you can enjoy your meal while admiring the view. 

 

SUMELA MONASTERY 

Sumela Monastery, built on a steep rock on the outskirts overlooking the Altındere valley of Karadağ, within the borders of Altındere Village in Trabzon's Maçka district, is flocked by thousands of visitors every year.

A lush feast of colors awaits you along the monastery road winding at the foothills of the majestic mountains. When you reach the last point you can reach by car, you are amazed by the beauty of the monastery located on the slope of the mountain.

You continue the rest of the way with a minibus ride that takes about 5 minutes and you reach the entrance of the monastery. A 70-step staircase starting from the entrance of the outer courtyard welcomes you. And the journey into the depths of history begins...
